LAA Housing

Our housing team is funded by the Legal Aid Agency, meaning our LAA Housing Project Workers can only assist with enquiries that fall under the scope of Legal Aid and if you meet the financial eligibility for Legal Aid. If your situation doesn't fall under the scope or you donít meet the financial eligibility for Legal Aid, our Advisers may be able to help instead in the form of a one-off appointment.

Please be aware that we cannot arrange accommodation if you are homeless.

Our LAA Housing Project Workers can only help with cases that fall into the below categories:

  • you are homeless, the local Council refuses to assist you, and you want to challenge their decision.
  • you are being evicted from a private or social rented property and want help challenging the eviction.
  • your private or social landlord is refusing to remedy serious disrepair which is putting the health and/or safety of you and/or your family at risk.
  • the local Council or your private or social landlord has taken action against you for antisocial behaviour.
  • you are being harassed by a private landlord, they are threatening to evict you illegally, or they have illegally evicted you.

If your housing query doesn't fall under one of the above categories or you donít meet the financial eligibility, our LAA Housing Project Workers will not help due to the very strict criteria of Legal Aid funding.

Our housing team also attends the Medway, Maidstone, Basildon, Tunbridge Wells and Dartford County Courts on the days when repossession hearings are held. Our workers can advise you on your case and go into the hearings with you. They can only assist people who have hearings booked on that day however.

You will need to go through our Initial Check process and once we have confirmed that you are financially eligible and your case falls under the scope of Legal Aid, we can arrange an appointment for you to see one of our LAA Housing Project Workers.
